Louise Gray, British fashion designer with eccentric and impeccable style as seen on this blog I found this morning: Show Me Your Wardrobe, which gives you a glimpse into the wardrobes of today's creative talent. I love that Gray's style 100% embodies her designs and aesthetic. Check out a couple looks from her Fall 2010 RTW collection below:

My brain can still hardly process the brilliant collection of Mary Katrantzou for Spring 2011. Pure genius! I don't want to say that I'm disappointed in New York Fashion Week, but when placed against London's Fashion Week, the differences are almost too obvious not to state. London is just so progressive..and daring!

For example, Mary Katrantzou's collection- yes, digital prints have been done before, but she pulls it off with such conceptual and artistic flourish. Katrantzou's designs seem to blend together modern day minimalism while referencing Neoclassical architecture. What makes the collection even better is that it evolves within itself.
Christinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01160556557223368827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4149785361134248059.post-43992008136750104002010-09-16T09:16:00.000-07:002010-09-16T09:51:10.826-07:00Geometry, Structure, Minimalism

What a breathtaking collection at Threeasfour. I love when designers
are willing to move fashion forward and ignore all the bullshit behind
forecasting, which results in designers all doing the same thing. I'm tired of draping and loosely hung clothing. I'm
reading for structure again

3.1 Phillip Lim was quite magnificent as well. The clothes are much more wearable, somewhat following the lady-like trend, yet are conceptual. There was a lot of sheer fabrics, layering, and once again- structure. It almost seemed like a nod towards what Nicolas Ghesquiere is doing at Balenciaga. (All photos taken from Style.com)

There was a point where every photo I took turned out black..or completely blurry. Haha. Most photos are also of the backs of people.
I took these photos at the Lincoln Center this afternoon. It was so great seeing people dressed in all different kinds of clothing and styles. Even more interesting were all the people dying to photograph this "fashionable" crowd. Christian and I did, however, get interviewed by some British blog or website. We were previously warned- so we decided to deck out in our own "fashionable dress."
Christinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01160556557223368827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4149785361134248059.post-5793333700543149742010-09-10T09:49:00.000-07:002010-09-10T09:50:07.034-07:00And Day Transitions to Night

Day one of Fashion Week in NYC was spent exploring The High Line, an old railway converted into an above-ground park/walkway in the Meatpacking District, revisiting old friendships, and creating new ones. My new friends and I have been living in K-town. Korea-town that is. Just north-east of FIT, we have found a cheap and easy locale that serves kimchi fried rice, kim-bap, and ramen. The food is decent, but the company is great, and it's open late. An even better spot serves $8.99 shaved ice and $6.99 bubble tea- ha-ha.. not a joke.
Christinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01160556557223368827noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4149785361134248059.post-22266614488015571042010-09-06T16:28:00.000-07:002010-09-06T16:44:04.564-07:00Balenciaga Striped Heels
Bryant Park has been one of my favorite places I've seen since I arrived to the city. Not just for the fantastic Fashion Magazine store, Around the World, across the street that has literally every fashion magazine ever printed, but also for the sense of tranquility felt while sitting and reading at a table while in the middle of the City.

Target "Fashion Show" at the Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District.

Right before the show I read on their Facebook page that Target recently supported an anti-gay politician. How stupid can Target be? How much gayer can a fashion show with dancing models and a multi-color light show extravaganza be? Shameful.. The show was spectacular on the other hand- it was a gorgeous night and took me completely by surprise. Dancing models filled the each of the windows of the Standard Hotel.
Christinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01160556557223368827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4149785361134248059.post-45320993530818473142010-08-29T13:44:00.000-07:002010-08-29T13:49:02.622-07:00Sunny days and long nights
I have been meeting new people left and right, it's been wonderful. These photos were taken a couple of weeks ago at the MOMA and some random store in SOHO. I loved the way the clothing was displayed installation-galleryesque style. Amazing. It's funny, New Yorkers seem to love this shirt that I got at a consignment store in Dallas- it's Costume National- $35...Oh, and who's ready for Fashion Week??
Christinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01160556557223368827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4149785361134248059.post-58657237636158286222010-08-27T09:53:00.000-07:002010-08-30T08:00:42.894-07:00Running up that hill

I've been listening to a lot of disco-electro since I moved to New York. Actually, the addiction started back in Memphis, and more importantly solidified during the road trip I took before moving to New York to Santa Fe. I know I haven't posted any photos to the blog of Santa Fe, but I'll get to those eventually. If any of you get a chance- definitely check out Chromatics, Glass Candy, and Desire.

It's cooled down a lot here since early August. I actually slept with the window cracked last night and enjoyed an amazing breeze throughout the night. Grad school has been an eye-opening experience this week. My classmates are all down to earth with varying degrees of experience, a bit intimidating at first, but it just made me realize how much I have to learn- from them, from the professors... It's funny how quickly life gets back into a steady routine once you have something occupying your days- other than sleeping in and looking for adventures. I really do miss having the time to explore various parts of the city. I guess I should just appreciate the two weeks I had before school started.

Oh, and everyone should read Andy Warhol's The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again). It's such a vivid and honest account of his thoughts and experience from the 60s.
Drew Ryan who is a familiar face to many in the Memphis music scene has embarked on a new experimental project under the name Meme. How would I describe the sound? I have no words other than its an aural experience. Let it be known that this $5 cassette is probably my favorite purchase i've made in the past few weeks. Each track weaves into the next but all in all the listener is drawn into a cavernous abyss of beats and low dirges. Here are some photos of the cassette, which was put together by Drew himself and i've also posted a video beneath for the song "Bunny Boy" directed by Brandon Pearce. You can find more about Meme at Drew's label website Tape Deco.
I'm currently temporarily handicapped with a broken foot, and Gavin's been extremely busy working on his music venture. Check him out, Cities Aviv HERE. Honestly, I never really understood the difference between "good" hiphop and just bad rap, until recently. Not to be extremely cheesy or pretentious, but Gavin has really helped me broaden my musical taste, including learning to appreciate good, intellectual hiphop (not that all music needs to be "intellectual."). However, that being said, most of our exposure to rap, unfortunately, seems to be what we hear on the radio- Lil' Wayne(?), Drake..etc (honestly, I had to google even these two to be able to write about them, pathetic, huh?), and for the most part, all you hear is foul/vulgar language about the objectification of women or even worse, almost incomprehensible and unintellible noise about nothing united with beats that are quintessentially "southern" with the "ts-ts-ts-ts." Sorry for the rant. Good rap, on other hand, (in my humble opinion), appropriates samples from old soul songs or have beats that are complex and leave your brain feeling almost overwhelmed! It's awesome! A really great example is Madlib on Stones Throw Records from L.A. Seriously, check him out. I recently purchased a record Miles Away by Madlib, under one of his many aliases, The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz and Percussion Ensemble as a thank-you present for one of my professors, who is undeniably one of the biggest jazz-snobs out there, and he loved it! All of this was a really round-about way for me to say that Gavin's music is up there with many of these other rappers that he always goes on and on about and looks up to such as: Jay Electronica from New Orleans, Strong Arm Steady, MF Doom..(even if he is too humble to admit so). Unlike most of the crass radio rappers, Gavin, or Cities Aviv has writing that is infused with subtle word play, punning, and metaphoric language- truly music that makes one think and requires time to process, possibly even a thorough second-listening. Definitely check him out at his myspace and stay in tuned for a potential show in late June or early July as well as the release of his own album, Dead Days.
Christinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01160556557223368827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4149785361134248059.post-46663848132290668912010-04-30T15:00:00.000-07:002010-04-30T15:01:57.085-07:00Resort-ing to Prada
Prada Candy Stripe Mary-Janes
